Matching Heading Tips in IELTS Reading

Heading set in IELTS reading is very difficult to tackle for some students. But do not worry  because these tips makes easier to do heading part, so look out at these tips.

Tip no.1 : Do this question first and make sure that you don't look at the heading first. 

Tip no.2: You are not expected to read every word of the text, try to have general meaning of every paragraph.If paragraph is short then read it quickly but if it long then read first two lines and last two lines of paragraph. This clear your idea upto 80% and try to match it with heading with  elimination method. If you are quick reader then also look for the connector in the passage because sometimes main stress of the idea is given in the middle of the passage.

Tip no.3: If there are any word that you do not understand, do not worry about this, just focus on general meaning of individual paragraph.

Tip no.4: Be aware of the synonyms for e.g A keyword in the heading might be beautiful but synonyms used may be attractive, pretty , lovely. etc

Tip no.5: If there are 2 or 3 headings that look similar to you, write them beside the paragraphs and try to find out the difference between headings, you should look for different such as;

                * What are the keyword
                * How does this change the meaning
                * Which heading matches the paragraphs best

Tip no.6: Check the connection and logical ordering between every paragraph.

Tip no.7: Do not read too quickly because in this case you will miss the important information.

NOTE:  If you still cannot decide which heading suits the best, Move on and come back later.
