Continuous tenses




Present continuous Tense

Subject + is/am/are + verb(first form) + ing+ object

This tense is used to show an action that going on or is in program at the time of speaking e.g

The children are making a noise.
Radha is washing the clothes.
She is reading a book .
You are helping your friend.

This tense is also used  to show an action which is going to take place in future e.g

I am going to buy some books next week
She is leaving for Delhi tomorrow

We, they – ARE
       I         -- Am
He/she /it--  Is

 


Past continuous Tense

To show an action  that was going on at some point in the past
 He was playing chess
She was washing her hair
The boys were flying kites.

Was – Singular
Were – Plural



Future Continuous tense


 Subject+ will/shall +verb (first form)  +ing + object

This tense is used to show an action that wll be going on at some time in the future

We shall be playing cricket tomorrow evening
I will be learning my lesson in the morning.
The teacher will be discussing a new lesson tomorrow.
